South Korea¡¯s tech behemoth Samsung Electronics¡¯ TV business recorded an operating profit (OP) of two trillion won ($1.90 billion) last year.
Samsung Electronics doubled the OP of its TV business from that of 2011 by launching a more aggressive marketing and boosting sales of premium and high-end products.
Samsung Electronics sold a total of 53 million TVs worldwide last year, including sales of 51.30 million flat TVs, said sources in the electronics industry Tuesday.
The sales of TV reportedly earned Samsung an estimated OP of around two trillion won.
Samsung did not publicly disclose the sales figure of its TV, but experts had estimated the company¡¯s OP to be in early one trillion won in 2011.
The TV business¡¯ OP accounted for seven percent of Samsung Electronics¡¯ estimated total OP of 29 trillion won last year.
The number suggests the company performed well even as the global TV market shrank.
Samsung met its sales target by selling over 50 million flat TVs last year.
