The average rate for banks' new loans to households stood at 4.74 percent last month, down 0.10 percentage points from the previous month, according to the Bank of Korea (BOK).

That represents the lowest level since data compilation began in January 1996.

The average rate for banks' new loans to companies declined 0.03 percentage points to 5.05 percent. Banks’ lending rates for entire loans lost 0.04 percentage points to 4.94 percent, still below five percent for two consecutive months.

The average rate for new savings deposits fell 0.06 percentage point to 3.02 percent, also the lowest level since 3.01 percent tallied in October 2010.

As a result, the deposit-loan interest margin for new transactions widened to 1.92 percent in November from 1.90 percent in October.

The deposit and lending rates at non-banking financial institutions, such as mutual banks and cooperative credits, also declined.
