![]() South Korea-based Doosan Heavy Industries and Construction Co., Ltd., announced Thursday that the company has won a four billion dollar (or 4.70 trillion won) order with the Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO) to supply nuclear reactors to the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
The facility construction order placed by the Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation (ENEC) is to construct four units of 1400MW nuclear reactors near by Abu Dhabi. The construction of the first reactor is scheduled to be completed in 2017 and the rest will be completed at intervals of one year. For the facility construction project, South Korea will provide the Korean APR 1400 reactors, which are known as the next generation nuclear reactor independently developed by the nation. Doosan will be supplying nuclear reactor, steam generator and turbine facility. "The government and the nuclear power industry should work together to foster the industry as export-oriented one," and "by successfully performing the facility construction project of exporting the first Korean-style nuclear reactors overseas, we expect that we can contribute greatly to expanding exports of nuclear reactors at the national level," said Park Gee-won, the President and CEO of the company.
